Part-Time Children & Youth Director
Title: Director of Children’s and Youth Ministries
Hours of Work: 20-25 hours per week (part time)
Schedule Requirements: Sundays, Wednesday Evenings, Special Events
Salary: $20-$25 per Hour (Depending Upon Experience & Qualifications)
Compensation Payment Schedule: Every 2 weeks
Direct Supervisor: Senior Pastor
This job description includes, but is not limited to, the following general and specific responsibilities, and may be added to or deleted from as need dictates.
Primary Purpose:
To provide leadership, direction, vision, and management of programs in the areas of Children’s ministry (pre-K through 5th grade) and youth ministry (grades 6-12). The Children & Youth Director connects with children, youth, parents, and volunteers on a weekly basis to create gospel-centered, safe, welcoming, and fun environment for all children and youth programing and special events.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee Children & Youth’s Programming for Sunday School including teaching, volunteer recruitment & scheduling, and provide curriculum.
Direct events for children: Parents’ Night Out, Special Events, and Summer Day Camp. Include intergenerational activities.
Direct events for youth: teach (usually Wednesday evenings & Sundays after worship), plan & get resources, plan special events & activities including at least one mission experience.
Assist the senior pastor with overseeing the Children and Youth Safer Sanctuaries policy, training, and background checks for the staff and volunteers.
Communicate and build relationships of trust with children, youth, parents, and volunteers
Work with the senior pastor and worship planning team to find ways for the children and youth to participate.
Thinking creatively and strategically for the one-week Summer Day Camp ministry and work with children’s coordinators.
Ø Plan curriculum and activities
Ø Recruit and train volunteers
Ø Create a Day Camp Schedule
Ø Plan nutritious lunches & snacks
Ø Organize volunteer teams for set-up and clean-up
Exhibit strong teamwork skills, including ability to work cooperatively and jointly with coworkers, volunteers, and leaders
Demonstrate interpersonal skills, including the ability to encourage and motivate others
Show strong evidence of administrative and organizational skills (work with Administrative Assistant)
Ø Set-up groups for quick & easy contact
Ø Update Children & Youth activities on Church Website
Ø Use Church’s Facebook Page to advertise, recruit, and promote Children & Youth Activities
Ø Manage volunteer application intake process
Ø Complete background checks on volunteers including tracking time for volunteer background renewals and secure all applications and background checks
Ø Ensure that all Volunteers have completed Safer Sanctuary Training
Ø Work with Admin. Asst. to print name tags for children and volunteers.
Qualifications
Personal commitment to Jesus Christ and ability to articulate and model Christian faith.
Self-motivated with ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to build relationships with children, youth, families, and volunteers.
Strong organizational skills and leadership abilities.
Basic technology skills and familiarity with social media platforms
Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check
Understanding of developmental stages of children and youth (preferred)
Previous experience in children/youth ministry or education (preferred)
