Preschool Ministry Teacher (Part-Time)
Aldersgate United Methodist Church (North Reading, MA) seeks a loving, creative, and responsible individual of Christian faith to lead our growing Bible Buddies Preschool Class. This part-time role (4 – 5 hrs/week) includes teaching Sunday mornings (Sept–May, 2nd Sunday off each month) and 1-2 hours of prep weekly. Must be 18+, experienced in childcare, and pass a background check. Educational background preferred. Responsibilities include lesson planning, engaging with families, coordinating volunteers, and supporting preschool ministry activities. Pay is $125/week. Option to extend for Vacation Bible School in August.

Sunday Morning Preschool Director Position Description

Qualifications

  • A person of faith (any Christian denomination), loving, creative, responsible, with an understanding of God and the Bible, and at least 18 years old
  • Experienced in childcare
  • Experience in education
  • Must have satisfactory completion of a nationwide criminal background check and reference check

 

Benefits

  • Pay is $125/week, Sunday mornings from the first Sunday after Labor Day through the Sunday prior to Memorial Day (appx 30 weeks, excluding the Sunday after Christmas). Off one Sunday a month for church’s Sunday Brunch services, generally the second Sunday.
  • Time away must be scheduled three weeks or more in advance, and an approved substitute obtained
  • Two sick days are permitted
  • The position is part-time and does not qualify for any benefits.
  • Option to extend during summer to prepare for and/or participate in Vacation Bible School in late August for extra pay

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead teacher for the Bible Buddies Preschool Class
    • Connect with existing teachers in place for continuity of program
    • Create an atmosphere for the children in your care to teach, nurture and help them develop as individuals and as part of a Christian community
    • Plan and prepare in advance interactive Bible-learning experiences you write, or from approved curriculum
    • Interact with parents in a welcoming manner
    • Maintain a safe educational environment for children by upholding Aldersgate’s Safer Sanctuaries Policy
    • Monitor the condition of equipment and supplies and alert other teachers when equipment or supplies are needed
    • No diapering needed; children must be potty trained to participate.
  • Coordinate the Preschool Ministries Team, including
    • Staffed nursery worker – check ins, oversight
    • Once-monthly Preschool/Toddler Happy Hour Leader, collaborating or supporting as requested (first Sunday mornings of each month)
  • Work with Worship Leader for occasional Special Music presented by preschool class

 

Work Hours and Schedule

  • This position requires about 1-2 hours of planning per week outside Sunday mornings and 2 – 2.5 hours on site Sunday mornings from the Sunday after Labor Day through the Sunday prior to Memorial Day, excluding Sunday Brunch Sundays (generally the second Sundays of the month).
  • Absences must be communicated two weeks in advance to the Chair of the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC), and coverage within the team secured for continuity of programming.
